1.3.4, further information given!

This week there finally was given more information concerning the upcoming 1.3.4.

Everyone has been asking for more details about 1.3.4. Well, while I can’t provide the patch notes, just yet, I can certainly give you a bit more information than what was discussed in Bruce’s Producers Letter, including a rough timeline:

  • At this point the plan is to have 1.3.4 on PTS by the first week of February or (at the latest) early the second week of February. Patch notes, of course, will accompany the opening of Warpstone.
  • We will be introducing an entire new line of weapons earned via RvR (this is the “feature players have been asking for”). These weapons will be purchasable via a vendor and will not be bought using medallions or crests, instead utilizing an entirely new currency system earned via Scenario gameplay from tiers 1-4. More information about these new items and how they’re earned will be forthcoming in a Dev Diary with Developer Sean Bosshardt.Speaking of Scenarios…
  • We are completely reworking the current structure of Scenarios by removing some of the less popular and streamlining the tiering of Scenarios. There will be more details upcoming in a Dev Diary from Content/RvR Lead Mike Wyatt next month.
  • The last tidbit is a change to the way that the campaign functions. Starting with 1.3.4, once a Contested City flips into the Captured state (otherwise called “Stage 2”) the Open RvR Campaign will now restart, leaving the realm sieging their enemies city with a tough decision: Stay in the city, possibly defeating your opponent’s King, or retreat back to the open field to defend your realm?

So there’s a little more meat to some of the changes coming in game update 1.3.4. Obviously we’re pretty excited about these items and even more excited to talk about 1.3.5 and beyond in Bruce’s next producers letter which will coincide with the launch of 1.3.4 on all live servers. We’ve had a great 6 months of improving every aspect of WAR and we’re more focused than ever on continuing to deliver on what our players want: Fast hitting, skull crushing and engaging Realm vs. Realm combat.

There’s never been a better time to join the WAR!

Now, what do we have here?

Things finally get rolling, apparently. As stated the changes are supposed to go live on the PTS soon, the first week of February if things go as planned, which is not even two weeks away anymore. Lets get to the interesting parts already. Right now the newly introduced weapons are still unknown, meaning no one knows their stats, itemization nor what it takes to get them. In that regard some classes will find themselves surprised and possibly even bamboozled (god, I love to find usage for that word.), in good as well as bad ways.

What we do know however is that they’re gonna be purchased by a newly introduced currency, along side with the weapons, earned through Scenarios! I like Scenarios a lot, in fact they been providing me the most fun in Warhammer for a long time now. Not enough with that however, they plan to scrape, re-do and/or overhaul less appealing Scenarios on top of it. My personal favorite is Battle for Praag, I could play it all day long, no other Scenario comes even remotely close. I expect the pops to go crazy after the patch hits live, and I predict a blast, at least for myself. Personally, I don’t think I’ll need a weapon for my main (hopefully not anyway) as I was just lucky enough to get the palace bow. Some bragging rights should last a bit longer than a week 😛 I am however very interested in seeing how existing Scenarios get changed or scraped and how it’ll affect the fun Warhammer provides me.

Another great change (in all ways possible) is that in the future if a city flips to stage II and locks for 3 hours, the realm that just got steamrolled has the option of starting in the RvR lakes right away. This means that instead of crest farming in your own city you can push out and try to make it to theirs, which, with two underdog points anyway, is very very possible. It also means that Scenarios become widely available again, as they’re tied to the RvR zones which will no longer remain shut down during that period.

There wasn’t much said regarding class balance and/or bug fixes. There might will be some, but less likely I think and lastly not of huge impact if they were to happen. All in all finally something to look forward to at this point while directing ones prayers to the gods of MMO devs that this time things don’t result in another mess that can be exploited like crazy in way too many ways.

As I get more information I’ll make sure to either toss out another post or update this one!
